Dawson’s Smile: Facial Reanimation Surgery for a Child With Mobius Syndrome

Parents
Six-year-old Dawson has Mobius Syndrome, which causes facial paralysis. That means he has never had the ability to smile – until now. Dr. Alison Snyder-Warwick is a Washington University pediatric plastic surgeon at St. Louis Children’s Hospital. She specializes in facial reanimation surgery. The plastic surgery team at St. Louis Children’s Hospital and Washington University School of Medicine is one of only a handful of centers in the country that focuses on this specialized procedure. The pediatric plastic surgery department at St. Louis Children’s Hospital provides care for a full spectrum of congenital and acquired deformities, as well as focused services in four areas: cleft lip/palate and other craniofacial birth defects; congenital and acquired hand defects; blood vessel malformations; and adolescent cosmetic surgery of the face and breasts.
