If you’ve stumbled over the words to “Hush Little Baby” in a middle-of-the-night haze while baby looked on perplexed, you’re not alone. But fear not, learning the lyrics to your favourite lullabies and songs is easy as pie, and you’ll be amazed by how good it makes you feel!
Aside from soothing baby and helping them fall asleep, a growing body of research shows that singing has benefits for parents, too. A study published in the journal Public Health found that singing daily was associated with fewer postnatal depression symptoms, as well as increased well-being, self-esteem and perceived mother-infant bond. Other studies looking at mother-baby singing classes saw similar effects. So moms, sing like no one is listening—except your baby, of course. It might be helping more than you know!
Here are the lyrics to some of the sweetest lullabies, from “Rock-a-bye Baby” to “Brahms Lullaby,” plus the playful ditties you’ll want to sing to your little one all day long:
Lyrics to Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star
Lyrics to My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean
Lyrics to Higglety Pigglety Pop
Lyrics to Do You Know The Muffin Man
And in case the festive season approaches, here are the lyrics to Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and Deck the Halls!
